Stanway Rovers v Whitton United

Stanway surrendered their 100% league record in losing to Whitton United in a disappointing display.
The Manager made several positional changes for this game including newly signed Baker in midfield.
The match opened with the visitors posing more of a threat. As early as the 6th minute a foul given away by Carver was saved by the keeper. Whitton continued to show more aggression in their play with Stanway finding it hard to get going. Thirteen minutes gone when the visitors should have scored when Wales shot weakly at the goalkeeper.The visitors went ahead in the 28th minute following a free kick when Gittons scored direct with the ball going in at the near post.
However on 44 minutes Whitton allowed Stanway the advantage when Clarke received a straight red for a clumsy tackle just before the interval.

The second half opened much as the first with Rovers struggling to find their rythm despite the one man advantage. A golden opportunity arose for Rovers when Shaw failed to connect properley when close in, and shortly after this Holdstock went close with a header. Whitton made the game safe in time added on when the home keeper attempting to clear out of his area, only to misjudge the ball completely which left Easton-Collins an empty net to put them two up. Soon after Phillips was given a straight Red for a bad tackle.
Overall the result was puzzling following the recent fine performances. Rovers appeared to have changed their tactics for this one despite their success down the flanks previously.
