Stanway Rovers 2-1 Hoddeston Town (Essex Senior League)

Rovers 2 Hoddeston Town 1 (Essex Senior League)

Two evenly matched sides looked very like sharing the spoils as the game entered the final throes of a hard-fought contest at The Hawthorns. The visitors shaded the first half by opening the scoring on 25mins from a corner kick which flew into the net giving returning keeper Pete Haxell no chance. HT 0-1. However Stanway were to battle their way back into contention with an impressive never-say- die attitude which has evolved in recent weeks. Firstly, a sweetly struck volley from Tyler Kemp curled into the net from 20yds drew the hosts level, and for the second time in as many games Scotty Kemp made it a family affair by snatching all the points in added time. It would be wrong to claim that Rovers have turned a corner but if anyone thinks that by merely turning up earns the right to win a football match…then Stanway have that dogged determination to prevail against the odds.
