Ely City v Stanway Rovers

Rovers left Ely wondering how they failed to win this one. Having completely dominated the game throughout the match they failed to score following a load of opportunities.

Overall the game was a fairly drab affair although to be fair Rovers had the first half to themselves with some entertaining open play. However the opportunities to score when clean through were wasted. The home side weathered the storm and must have been pleased with their resolute defending to go in at half time scoreless.

The second half was much the same as the first with chances going begging for the visitors with hitting the post, goal line clearances and a superb performance from the Ely goalkeeper. Stanway huffed and puffed throughout the half but their long ball tactics did not pay off.

The game ended in a stalemate with Ely being applauded off the pitch as though they had won the world cup.

Two points lost rather than one point gained. One to forget.
